I am back from Jordan and working hard on my travel reviews for my site but wanted to share a favorite picture from Petra. All I can say is WOW - it was amazing! [/img]
The whole city is carved into the mountains. This is a church. How they did it, I'm not sure, slowly I'm guessing!
Andrew I may never actually see the places, plants and animals you show us in your photographs for myself but you certainly know just how to bring them to life for us. :-D I imagine the city is centuries old but I would have thought their would have been more deterioration in the carvings as they appear to be made from sandstone (kinda obvious deduction huh?) Do you know when it was first carved out?
Magnificent!! Thank you for sharing this with us, Andrew. Just viewing the picture takes my breath away, I can only imagine how awe inspiring it must have been standing there, before it. A vivid reminder of a time when masonry meant something much more than laying bricks.
I was in one of the Inidan Jones movies, not sure which one but I'm assuming it was the 3rd. It was AMAZING to see in person!
Amazing and awe-inspiring. I have always wanted to see Petra, someday maybe... Very cool that you got to go! Thanks for sharing.
Mary, that was the first thing I thought of too. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Gorgeous picture BBB, thanks. It is just amazing how they could carve buildings into the mountains...by hand!!!
