Hi Coupon, welcome to the Stew from north Texas. Glad to have you join us. There are a few other of your fellow Canadians here too. Tell us about what kind of garden you are starting...flower, vegies, herbs. And be sure to show us pictures of your progress, we are a nosey bunch and love pictures.
Well, I'm starting a vegetable and flower garden. It's sort of a weird mix, I know, but I'm hoping it works out okay. I'll post some pictures later this week. We've only started digging out the area so there's not to much to see.
Mixing them together really isn't a strange idea, many vegies benefit from having certain flowers or herbs plants close to them. These sites will give you good info on what should and should not be planted together. http://www.ghorganics.com/page2.html http://www.gardenguides.com/how-to/tips ... /vcomp.asp A picture of the 'blank canvas' that is your future garden is a good thing, we love drooling over the creation of new gardens. We are friendly and a bit strange here :-D
Well this sounds like my kind of site. I'm hoping to get lots of help with this garden so it works out really well. Thanks for the links
Hello Coupon Welcome to the stew from another Ontario gardener! A brand new garden...oh boy! And did anyone mention we love pictures?
Hi coupon and welcome to the Stew from Central Texas. You will love your garden once it is planted.I will look forward to seeing your pictures. Thanks toni I found this to be most interesting for the ones who have rabbit problems. Mexican marigold (T. minuta) is the most powerful of the insect repelling marigolds and may also overwhelm weed roots such as bind weed! It is said to repel the Mexican bean beetle and wild bunnies! Be careful it can have an herbicidal effect on some plants like beans and cabbage.
Do any of you have any tips about raccoon problems? They're all over my neighbourhood. I was thinking of making a chickenwire fence around the garden, do you think it will work?
We don't have a racoon problem here, but I am sure there are others who have. Why not post a question about controling them in the Wildlife forum. It will get many more views in that forum and someone just might have an answer.
Welcome Coupon, from south Louisiana. Can't wait to see your garden, and mixing veggies and plants is not strange at all.
