This is my one feeder devoted to the squirrels. I "planted" their bate away from the other feeders, and it seems to work to some degree. Always entertaining to watch.
They sure are entertaining to watch. When we lived in town, the squirrels ate more than the birds. Out here in the country, I haven't seen a squirrel in the 7 years we have lived here.
Very cute fellow, we had more when we lived in Baton Rouge too, about 8 pairs in the live oak in the back yard.
I love to watch them every morning as I have my coffee on the porch. My Dogs like to chase them but they keep coming back. There's a family of 5 in the tree next door. The nest in tree is from them and it BIG. I thought it was a hawk nest or some kind of bird (since one comes around ever now and then) So I have plenty to look at :-D .
I like squirrels I put out feed for em, a mix of corn, peanuts and sunflowers seeds, but the birds keep eating the sunflower seed *lol*
Seeds for the Squirrels Wow! I bet if you grew some giant sunflowers the squirrels would scale the stalks to eat the seeds when the plants matured. That would be a site to see! Chris
Miss My Squirrels I love your pretty brown squirrel! We had to stop feeding both birds and squirrels this year because the squirrels were burying the nuts in my potted impatiens and causing me to have to keep replacing them. The impatiens, not the squirrels...We had a late freeze and I guess it confused them so they think they have to prepare for the winter already.
I really don't have to worry about those bushy tail eating my garden stuff this year. I have a pair of Hawk nesting no more then 20 yards from my house so needless to say they Bushytails don't pop up much!
