This plant came with our new house. It started coming up when the weather started warming up. Each leaf is on it's own stem, with all stems emerging from the ground. I originally thought it was a geranium, then perhaps a heuchera...but now I have no clue! Someone suggested it might be a hollyhock, but I've never seen a hollyhock that looked like this. http://www.ebsqart.com/cmd/ImageThumb.a ... EID=416394 http://www.ebsqart.com/cmd/ImageThumb.a ... Those are definitely NOT Hollyhocks. Very hard to tell, but it could be Heuchera...the habit is the same.
Your leaves appear to be thicker and shinier than the French Hollyhock and they cluster near the ground. The French Hollyhock leaves are thin, not nearly that shiny and do not cluster near the ground. Also the scallops on the edges of your leaves are more pronounced curves where the French Hollyhock is a gentle curve. The scallop on the leaf edges become more pronounced when the mature, but by that time they are anywhere from 2 feet to 5 feet tall.
yes, i had looked at the french hollyhock, but came to the conclusion that it wasn't that. I have another heuchera (that i planted), purple palace, and it does have a similar habit. But I just couldn't be sure..... I guess i will have to wait until it flowers, provided it is a heuchera. They flower in the late summer correct?
