The leaves are bigger than the palm of my hand. I'm having a hard time figuring this out. Any help is appreciated.

Hi majoroufan, welcome to the Stew.

Is there any chance you can get a picture of this tree? It is really difficult to make an ID without a picture.

Yes I can. The tree looks like a dwarf but can't tell for sure. I'll try to uplink the picture tomorrow.

Yes in my research,I do believe it is a redbud. However, everything I read says the leaves turn green and the "red" you see is when the tree is flowering.

This tree has beautiful deep dark heart shaped leaves all the time. Is this some sort of special species of redbud maybe?

I know very little about horticulture, so pardon my ignorance. I'm building a house, and have to select a tree for the front yard, and I don't want a large tree. I want something small with color, and easy to care for.

There is a Redbud cultivar called 'Forest Pansy' the leaves start out scarlet and become maroon as they mature. That may be what you have.

Eileen, I think you hit the nail on the head! The description and pictures appear to be a match with the Forest Pansy Redbud tree. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!

Here's a shout out to my fellow Okie - Starlight Farms. NW of OKC? Enid? Kingfisher? Woodward?
