I've got Jensens that came from Denmark in my family tree. I'm stuck and need to know if there are other names I should be looking for? The person I'm looking for is the father of Henry Chris Jensen, and the father was listed in a census as C Jensen. Henry was born in 1873 in Sweden, and arrived in America in 1876. His father (the person I'm looking for) was a merchant seaman (I remember my grandfather talking about that). I cannot find any more information about a C Jensen, and wondered if I should be looking for other last names. I remember my grandfather saying his first name was Cristopher, and my mom thinks his first name was Hans, middle Cristopher. Should I also be looking for Christiansen, Hansen, or any other last names in records?

PianoLady I spoke to a friend about this tonight and he believes that the tradition of surnames being created from the first name of the father followed by "...sen" died out well before 1873 in Denmark. So I think you should still be looking for a Jensen surname.

In 1891 there's a Charles Jansen aged 39, born Sweden, seaman, enumerated in vessels, Falmouth Harbour, Cornwall, UK. He's one of many crew members listed, together with Jans Anders Jansen, Philip Francis Jean, Peter Jennsen, Lars Christian Jensen and Bernt Tobias Johnsen. There's also a Christine Jensen aged 31, Crew, in London together with Frants Jensen and Pens Jensen.
