I am new to the Bleeding Hearts and have read that they seed. Where is exactly the seed pod? I have been trying to find this info. Mine is a white heart with a red drop. The drop opens, but there is nothing inside. The article I read stated to allow the seed pod to dry on the plant and suggest putting a plastic bag around the stem to catch any falling seed pods. Also, when should I pinch off the spent bloom? Thanks, Kathryn in TX
The seeds are so tiny that putting a paper (not plastic as it makes the seeds 'sweat') bag over the flower heads and then snipping them off is a good idea. You can then sort the seed pods from the flowers at your leisure and you've done two jobs at once!! :-D
Well I'll be... Guess I never noticed the seed pods before Thanks for the photo Eileen, now I know what to look for! My bleeding hearts reseed themselves all over the place, which is ok with me. Now maybe I can catch some seeds and start them in my green house for friends. Deanna :-D

I do not know the how mature my plant is since I received it on Mother's Day, but mine has seed pods. I am sure mine is not 10 years old.
I think I miss quoted... What I meant , is when you plant the seeds off the bleeding heart.......It will take it 10 years to be a plant????????? Gee I am confused .......If it is a hybrid?????More confused.. I put them in the refrigerator to get cold till fall. Then I will put them outside.?? SOund good ? b
That is what we do with our seeds. I would hope that it would not take 10 years. I would think maybe a year or so.

No, we have not done the bleeding hearts yet. I just received my plant on Mother's Day. We have used the seeds from the double purple trumpet.
ok ok.No harm in asking. I put mine in the frigerator...Till fall.. then I will plant them directly in the soil outside. b
