This seems like a very friendly forum and I am looking forward to being a part of it. I also think it is very interesting to have people involved from all over the world! I love to travel and enjoy learning about different places and people....and now, gardening.

I am especially interested in butterfly gardening. I raise Monarch and Black Swallowtail Butterflies.....it is fascinating.

Because of this interest in butterfly gardening, I have some native plants in my garden, which the butterflies love.

Are there Monarch and Swallowtails in Scotland (my Mom is a Campbell!), Sweden, Ireland, etc.??? The Monarch butterflies are very easy to raise.

    Enough rambling....

    Karen

Hi Karen welcome to the Stew from north Texas
Good to have you join us.
I have given two huge Fennel plants over to the Swallowtail caterpillars this year. As of yesterday, batch number 4 was out there munching away on it.

    Hi Karen!!!

    WELCOME to GardenStew.

We don't have swallowtail butterflies in Scotland neither do we have monarchs. :( The Swallowtails are only found in the Norfolk broads in Britain sadly. You must try to take photographs of some of the butterflies that visit your garden and also some of your native plants.

What part of Scotland does your mother come from - I may know it.

Looking forward to getting to know you. :D

Howdy Karen and a warm welcome to GardenStew :D Looks like you'l be quite a fan of the Butterfly forum we have here. A blog is a good idea to get your butterfly tales across as well ;)

I haven't noticed any Monarch or Swallowtails in Sweden but I'm not much of an expert in that area. I'll keep an eye open.

    Welcome aboard,
    // Frank

    Hello Karen
Welcome to the stew from southern Ontario!
I'm not too sure about Swallowtails, but we definitely have Monarchs here! TONS of them!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
Toni, wow...batch #4. Up hear in the Northland, I am just raising my first black swallowtail caterpillars right now...found them on Rue plant.

Eileen, too bad about the Monarchs...they are great fun to raise.
My Mom's Campbell family came from Inverary, Argyl...ancestors were Dukes and such and lived in the Campbell Castle there (I'm into genealogy, too!) Her MacNeil side came from the Isle of Barra. I love Scotland!

Eileen, I do have quite a few photos on my website of raising butterflies, my garden, etc.

    Karen
