:?: does anyone know the best way to get rid of a lilac bush? my lilac took a terrible beating in the storm we had last october, and as much as i thought i wanted to save it, well, i think it's time to go...i've cut most of the dead wood out and have gotten it as close to the ground as i can...(a truck and chain is not an option) is it just a matter of digging and digging now? any insight would be appreciated
The only way I know of removing lilacs is the way I had to do it a few years ago - spade, fork, backhoe and planty of 'elbow grease' I'm afraid.
I'd leave it and see if it grows back. I cut three of mine right to the ground after a bad ice storm and two of them grew back beatifully. (The third got the truck and chain treatment.)
that's what i thought 8) i thought about keeping part of it, but it is time for it to go...my late husband had been trying to kill it for years with no success. it just got bigger and wider. i'm going to have to wait until after the sunflowers bloom, i planted then just on the other side. i was thinking of putting some tall grasses there for a screen.
