Thanks so much. I will keep saying that to myself. Words are very powerful I believe.

Okay, okay... I really started back up full force over the extended weekend.
It started when I picked up my drummer for band practice. I told him I was quitting and doing alright, but after giving him the whole schpeal, I broke down and asked for a smoke.

After practice we went to a pub and I had one with my pint.

The next day I left for Newport with the other band (Dad and a few older cats) and my Mom came along. She and I smoked like chimneys the whole weekend.

I just feel like I need to be isolated to stay strong, but that's impossible! With the music and traveling, I just need to figure out a better way. I'm thinking about using the patch. I'm paranoid enough not to smoke with one on.

I've had this horrid flu for the last few days (please excuse any nonsensical posts, as they were fever induced). Although it's thrown everything else out of whack, and I'm still not sure if I can play a show booked for tomorrow, it's put my quitting back in place! No one wants to smoke if it hurts their skin to move. It just goes to show there's a silver lining to everything.

    So sorry Lexxi.
Hope you feel better soon. I have been have a flare also but am feeling better.

Cleaned my car yesterday. It is only 1 year old and if there was a dirty car contest, I'm sure I would stand a good chance of winning. It nearly killed me. I took all of the seats out and detailed the entire thing then washed and waxed it. Now it looks and smells new again. I am going to try not smoking in it. That would cut down heck, who am I kidding. Cutting down doesn't cut it.

I was going to ask the dr about the new med for quitting but forgot. Hubby broke his foot, which triggered a severe case of gout.(that's my excuse for not remembering while we were at the dr's.) Anyway I feel like such a loser right now, but decided to come back and post anyway. I have never not been able to do something when I set my mind to it. But this is pathetic.

You're not pathetic at all - just human!!! It's one of the hardest things that anyone can do. Just remember it's an addiction and because of that you will have withdrawal symptoms that are unpleasant. I think that's why many smokers decide that it's easier to go back to the habit.
If you are really determined to give up then you will - whether it's now or in a month or two really doesn't matter as long as you do give up and I know YOU WILL. :-D
I take my hat off to you for even trying - you're a better woman than I am.

It was the hardest thing I ever quit doing. Partying and everything that goes along with that lifestlye was easy to quit compared to smoking.

Thanks you all. I don't go out, at all except to dinner once in a while. I actually have no social life anymore. I'm not complaining as it is just easier that way.

I think you hit the nail on the head, eileen, when you said "Just remember it's an addiction and because of that you will have withdrawal symptoms that are unpleasant. I think that's why many smokers decide that it's easier to go back to the habit."

I take oxycodone 4 times a day just to be able to get up and down and walk. When the pain is really severe, I feel like I have to smoke. Someone told me that they read that(LOL) if you smoke catnip, it will make you loopy for about 30 min then all of your pain goes away. Hmmm. Has anyone ever smoked catnip? I've never even tried pot and some say that helps pain. I don't think catnip is illegal tho, lol.

I'm hanging in there, I just can't afford to become depressed over this quitting business. Basically, I am a very happy person, pain and all. Thanks again for the kind comments.

The dr. did tell me once that the addiction to smoking is harder to break than herion addiction. I don't know about that, but I can't imagine anything harder than trying to quit smoking.

If I post complaining that I have splinters under my fingernails and have been catching birds, you will know that I tried the catnip , with adverse reactions!!

 I've never smoked catnip, and by the smell of it, I'd never try either.

You're really trying, desertflower, and you will manage to quit. Cleaning everything to get rid of the tobacco smell is a good thing.

Try to make zones that are smoke-free, and make it as hard as possible for yourself to have a cigarette. Throw the smokers out in the yard. Preferably the neighbour's yard.

It is never easy to conquer addiction. If you think catnip might help then give it a try. You are doing excellent so far. 8)

I am proud to report that I have not had a cigarette in just over 7 months now! As someone who smoked for 32 years, It was a true miracle that I was able to quit.

Quitting has been the most difficult thing I have ever done. Bar none!

For those of you who are recently quit or those thinking of quitting - please give it a shot and do not give up - even when it gets really bad!

Every quitter has their own method. The patch proved reliable in the beginning, but I ended up getting a perscription for Chantix, which was by far the best method for me.

Besides the sense of accomplishment, I also am saving a lot of money (about $3000 per year). Each week I write a cheque to myself for $50+ and this is my "gratitude" money to be used towards a vacation, special outings, garden tools, etc....

Hang in there everyone.... it is not the easiest thing to do, but well worth the hell you go through.

    Congrats to you Brandon.
I used the reward system on myself three years ago, that along with becoming a knitting maniac helped me get thru the hard part.
