Jasmines There are nearly 40 varieties of Jasmines; Jasminum Sambac is a native of the Indian sub-continent. It needs full sun, rich but well-drained soil and little or no water during the flowering season. At the beginning of summer stop watering regularly and feed with a organic manure (or potash-phosphate mix if you must use fertilizers). Water once a week or at most twice a week. There are no diseases or pests to bother about. The water stress causes flowering and the hotter the summer, more strongly scented the flowers will be. Cheers
I am in zone 4 but I bought a Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) from a nursery here. It is hardy in zone 8-11. I loved the smell and wanted it by the front door when someone came because it smells so great. I didn't have any place to keep it this winter so I had to toss it out....I have tried before to bring outside plants inside but I could never get rid of the bugs in the soil.. I will post a picture of it in a day or so.. I have to say this but I find it really interesting meeting people from India and southern Africa..and of course all the othe places that people come from here...I love how computers bring everyone together.. It grew a lot that summer but I must not have taken a later picture.
