Any one ever hear of it?
Boy, what crazy weather we're having tonight. Its lightening and thundering while we have snow coming down. The thunder snow is producing our snow to come down 1-2 inches an hour. By morning we're suppose to have anywhere up to 10 inches.

We only have thunder if the weather is warm, which might also mean warmer than usual. Never had thundersnow, sounds scary.

Reporting this morning. We're sitting in an area that got 4 inches. But further north did get the 10 inches. with several schools closed or delays.

It was strange last nite as we had lightening with thunder while it was snowing-this would fit under strange weather.

When i lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, thunder snow was a common thing during the winter.. its actually quite beautiful to see the snow falling, usually a wet heavy snow,, an above it is all this lightning an rumbles,, its beautiful. I miss it. Nothing frightening about it,, just the name. Yep i remember when we did have that, it snowed like crazy, an the next day we would come out to massive amounts of snow.. usually really really wet snow. I grew up with that from 11 until i was 30,,,just a spectular show it is. I loved it.

    Something you will never forget!!

I saw it once while living in Virginia Beach, Virginia. That would have had to been in the late 1960's. Now it's very uncommon to get snow in Va. Beach let alone to have thunder and lightning at the same time. We ended up with about 6" of snow that time and everything came to a standstill. They didn't have any equipment to remove it and even if they had, they didn't know what to do with it. They even closed down the Navy Base where I was stationed for 2 days. It had all melted away by the 3rd day. It too was a heavy wet snow.

We had it a few times when I lived in Lubbock, kind of weird but not scary.
We also had pink snow....snowfall and dust storm at the same time. The wind had been kicking up a big dust storm for several days, a snow storm moved in while there was still what seemed like half of New Mexico in the air so we woke up one morning to 4 inches of pink snow covering everything.

:D We had pinkish snow one year too. Some volcano erupted near Iceland. Nature is weird and wonderful.

I was in a thundersnow once in Wisconsin when I was young and it was called a "blizzard." It was an exciting event, I was young and did not know it was dangerous, I just thought it was awesome.

Petunia, I got caught out in a Thunder snow storm last fall. It was the creepiest feeling standing in a white out with thunder and lightening! That was the first and only time I experienced Thunder snow.

I hear ya Netty, I don't think I'd want to be outside in that kind of weather. In fact I was ready to walk the dogs when it came about so I decided to wait till it was over.

I remember experiencing this in Kansas City where I spent a few of my younger years. It seemed so odd to me to odd thunder when snowing. But my dad, who worked for the National Weather Service assured me it could happen.

We had a terrible thunder and lightening storm last winter and it was snowing so hard you couldn't see a thing. It was the strangest thing I have ever seen. A bit spooky too.
