My grandmother had a hoya that bloomed every year. It was several feet long, and was so fragrant you could smell it all through her house. I too had problems with spider mites, and haven't had one for many years. In fact I haven't even seen any at area stores for a long time. I just know they're very slow growing. I found this site on hoyas (growers out of Florida), and thought it was very interesting. I didn't know there were so many varieties: http://www.hoyaplants.com/
kasey, Now what is the spider mite? I have lil white egges on the new leaves an thought that was the white fly. It continues to grow slow and only the new leaves have that on.. I been spraying with soapy water....... Hope it doesnt kill....And for the first time, I have that white egg on my christmas cactus. Anyone know? b
The mites are tiny and vary in color depending on the species. They form teeny webs on the undersides of the leaves, and suck the juices out of plants. I think hoyas are so susceptible because the leaves are so gnarled and provide a lot of hiding spots. That's why it's so difficult to get rid of them because you can't always get the insecticidal soap into the crevices where they're hiding. I regularly had to submerge the entire plant into soapy water to keep them under control.
kasey Thanks....then mine isnt spider.. I am famous for the white fly.. Now I understand .. Spider and web.. never had that thank heavens. Thanks again.. barb
