My husband likes to watch racing. I think it's a noisy, wasteful "sport".

NASCAR is the only sport I care to watch. #55 is my favorite.

I gave Randy a Richard Petty driving experience at the Texas Motor Speedway for our 20th Anniversary in 2000. He looked soooooo good in that racing suit and had a awesome time that day. After the driving class, they each get to drive one of the cars following a pace car, I forget how many laps they get to drive. They can go as fast or as slow as they are comfortable with. Randy's top speed was 141 mph, he was vibrating for days from the adrenalin rush.

I've watched Paris-Dakar, but they're moving it to Buenos Aires now, so I'm not sure anymore. I've also watched some dirt road rallies, but I'm not a big motor sports fan.

I know you you feel Droopy - It just does not seem right that the Paris-Dakar starts in Beunos Aires. I could still stomach it starting in Portugal and ending in Dakar.

As for a hobby - I do not know whether racing counts as a hobby since it is quite expensive - especially if you do not have sponsors or factory backing. Any one of those vehicles is worth millions - in some cases I think all the modifications done to those cars amounts to more that some Formula One cars.

BTW Droopy - Petter Solberg is doing well on the WRC and poor Henning did better at least until his car became undone.

CONFESSION  - I know it is not always environmentally friendly, but I sometimes enjoy watching the rallies on tv. It is amazing how those drivers manage. But I always say that if it was not for motor sport then some of the developments on production/commercial cars would not be possible. Eventually all those developments - designed for motor sport - finds its way into the vehicles that we drive. - look at ABS brakes for isntance.

    I agree......
Brakes, steering, frames, tires, many of the stuff is tested for that purpose.
I know the average joe cant afford that...

You mis understood my question......I meant is this the forum where we can talk racing?

    Thanks for the input .

Barb, I just moved this topic to the Village Square and change the subject so there won't be anymore confusion about what you meant. ;)

Hi Barb: My husband is into nascar races. I don't think he was happy when I planned a family snow day the same day as Daytona. But he'll be able to record it. He likes 88 Dale jr. Think Dale did pretty good last Sunday.

Those two are fun to watch, but we rarely get to see them unless they've done a roller or the cars fall apart. The sports on TV is soccer, and more soccer, with the occasional skiing event thrown in for good measure. I feel. I might be wrong.

I used to be a race fan, but have given up on the sport. Way too many crashes. The crashes spoil the whole thing. Take way too much time out from the race, you lose the pace and momentum that gets going, all the cars get bunched together for the restart, a bunched up lot of race cars are more likely to crash again, leads are lost, crashes just take away from the fun of race strategy. I did enjoy the IROC races, driver skills were what came to the front there.

My fiancee likes them, and I sit down and watch with him sometimes. He is very excited about Daytona . . . and is in the race pool every week.

I only have one thing that puzzles me . . .

When we go shopping . . . after about 30 to 45 minutes . . . he warns me that his attention span is getting short . . .

This is the same man that can watch the same cars go around in the same circle for several hours at a time every week. . . What gives??? lol
