Eileen, Did you see Hidalgo? If not, you gotta. This is a true story. Viggo Mortensen stars as Frank T. Hopkins, reputed to be one of the best riders of the Wild West. His chance to prove his talent comes when an affluent sheik invites him to join one of the most outrageous and grueling races of all: a 3000-mile trek across the Arabian Desert. Previously open only to those who ride Arabian horses, the event allows Hopkins to join with his Mustang, Hidalgo. Can they win? Starring: Viggo Mortensen, Omar Sharif.
I'll watch out for that one as it sounds just my type of thing!! I prefer to watch films that have been recommended by others. Have you seen "The Horse Whisperer" - another book I read and then followed it by going to the cinema afterwards. The book was better but the film is worth seeing.
Most recent favorites are Lord of the Rings trilogy King Arthur with Clive Owen All time favorites High Noon with Gary Cooper American in Paris and Brigadoon both with Gene Kelly The Ghost and Mrs. Muir with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison Windwalker with Trevor Howard and Nick Ramus
Seeing Clive Owen's name mentioned above, did anyone see the film he was in called 'Greenfingers', about a group of prisoners in an experimental gardening facility, who plan to enter the Hampton Court Flower Show ? C.J.
Almost any Dustin Hoffman movie, especially The Graduate and Little Big Man. Wizard of Oz Gone With the Wind
My favorites are many but I'm not that much of a movie watcher.I will always remember Tank with James Garner.I love to watch him.I did like Gone with the Wind.I have one in my mind that I absolutly enjoyed Second Hand Lions staring Michael Caine,Robert Duvall and Haley Joel Osment .It is an adventure to watch and is a funny movie is also a sad movie in a funny way.It does not sound that great but to me I enjoyed the entire movie.
Hidalgo was fun. I enjoyed it. Just remember that in real life Hidalgo did not win. I usually hate horse movies as I view them with such a critical eye. In my opinion, best riding scene in a movie has to be in The Man From Snowy River where the young man rides down SUCH a steep hill with lots of rock loosened and rolling. I've watched it over and over trying to see any signs that it is not real. Haven't seen any yet. Greenfingers was nice. I have yet to see Brokeback Mountain. It is next on my list because of the herding dog scenes. Dustin Hoffman is always a hit with me. Don't forget Marathon Man and Tootsie. muddy
I am not much of a movie watcher but prefer the oldies to any recent ones. My favorites are anything with Cary Grant or Katherine Hepburn or both. Arsenic and Old Lace, The Philadelphia Story, Bringing Up Baby are a few of my favorites.
My favorite is The African Queen with Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. Also McClintock with John Wayne. Almost any musical is good.Wannabe
My favorite is "The Ballad of the Sad Cafe" with Vanessa Redgrave and Keith Carridine. The hubbys (also a goodie) is "The Man Who Would Be King" with Sean Connery and Michael Caine. Thanks to Netflix we got to see both recently. 8)
How to choose? LOTR is right up there for me, but I also love Man from Snowy River, The Scarlet Pimpernel (the one with Anthony Andrews and Ian McKellen in it), High Society (with Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly), Singing in the Rain (Gene Kelly rocks!) and Harvey (James Stewart rocks!)... not to mention The Court Jester (love Danny Kaye) and... oh goodness, lots of others.
LOTR and HARRY POTTER! went to see each part on the widescreen and collected cd's on each too 3 more to go with Harry Potter!
