...So, for some years now my partner has complained that the conventional alarm clocks wake her too harshly and she just wakes up tired. It goes away after being at work for awhile, but she just didn't like that feeling of being sluggish after waking from a night's sleep. She tried a couple of alarm clock sorts out in the stores, but found nothing that she liked. One day a couple of weeks ago she went out shopping with her sis ....and came back home with this alarming item: Well, I told her, it certainally doesn't look like a conventional alarm clock...are you sure it is? chuckle. That evening she slipped-off and set it up, then merrily called me to come and look. She flicked-off the lights and I sat on the side of the bed and waited... The large upper portion of the clock began slowly to illuminate, getting slowly brighter and brighter. Then the birdies very distantly kicked-in. It was like the morning chorus. Do you know what I mean by that? You know how the robins (blackbirds), all start singing at once at sun-up and sun-down especially noticable in the springtime. Eventually the room was totally filled with light and the birds sounded like they were just outside the window. There was something natural about it. We just sat there grinning and saying... yeah. It works. Well, I have to say that this is a very unusual alarm clock, but my partner says that she has woken feeling totally rested every morning since using it. Well, if it works for her. It doesn't, however, wake me at all...she says that I'm a Neanderthal sometimes :-? Well it's on her side of the bed. I guess sometimes you just have to try something new.
Years ago my parents had an alarm clock that would flash light into the room. It got increasingly brighter also. I've never seen anything like it since. This one looks really tall, or is that just the picture? How tall and wide is it?
It's about a foot tall and perhaps 7-8 inches wide. I guess it's the picture, I got close to take the foto. It's sitting in a little alcove next to the bed. The light does not flash in this one it just gradually gets brighter...like the upcoming sun.
Well, I can't say that it's a new idea (they've been around over here for some time) but it is new for us and indeed cool.
Excellent machine! I thought of getting one but never actually followed through with it, let us know how it turns out with using it. If it does indeed have a positive lasting effect on how one wakes from sleep I may rethink buying one after all. Is that all that it offers? Does it have a night time setting perhaps where sounds are played?
What a really great idea!! Never knew there were such things out there. It would be amazing to wake up every morning to the sound of the dawn chorus in your own bedroom - even in winter!!! The added bonus would be thinking that sunlight was streaming into the room too. I could certainly do with one of those here in Scotland where most days are dull and gray.
Well, I complain all spring and summer about those darn birds waking me up too early singing outside the window. They sit on the eaves or the wire and sing and it gets louder and louder. I don't think it would be for me at all. I'd just as soon just wake up without anything but I know that is not an option for everyone. I'm happy she enjoys it. dooley
That alarm clock doesn't even sound like one, and I love the idea. Unfortunately, my husband insists on having this screeching thing going off several times every morning, and claims he won't wake up otherwise. I'll tell him about it, and we'll see what happens.
we got a wake up call they sound great i've looked on line and here in the u.k. amazon are selling them for £61.82 with free delivery will try and find them cheaper and let you know thanks for posting them on garden stew i'm definatly interested in one
Oh how I miss waking up to birds in the morning, this would be a welcome change to waking to Emily's crys!
CHELE: Well the "wake-up light" has several typoes of copunds, like frogs ribbiting ands the sound of sea waves lapping. The light can be set according to how bright it will become. There is also a "snooze' button. The type that we have is Philips. We have the simple one, but there is a more expensive one that has more sounds. Also I understand that there are other companies that make the Wake-up Light. SCARTHEE: That price sounds a bit steep. My bride said that she saw them for very cheap in the ALDI...or was it LIDL. At anyrate they were less expensive than the one that she selected by far...(after she had already bought it, naturally :-? ). Typs, eh? I'm really surprised that so many of you guys responded to this posting. It wasn't a gardeniong topic, just something unusual. It's neat that you did though. In the bird chorus there are several bird sorts on there...but very faintly a coo-coo can be heard a couple of times in the background. I know that there are so-called coo-coos in north america, like the yellow-billed coo-coo... but they are not the same as the ones that we have here. They make a totally different sound. I think they are called "rain crows" there as well. I've done bird-watching in the states, so I can still recall a few species.
This is so cool - now I want one too! It's just such a lovely idea, instead of buzzing or radio people talking about traffic.
