Well here we go again, some more pictures that were supposedly taken in our area. We are supposed to have cats running around in the woods, but I've never seen one, so take it for what ever it's worth. If true, it's kind of scary. Any way, their interesting pictures. Tom
Yikes!! So beautiful but soooo scary :-o Our Fish & Game Department outlawed hunting with dogs and that increased our cougar population. The poor farmers were losing sheep and cattle at an alarming rate so the law has been amended for the farmers and ranchers sake. Not only was it bad for livestock but household pets too! Deanna :-D
Whew, it's that kind of thing that makes me nervous to go outside at night, and I definitely take the dog when I do. I've had one that liked to visit my pasture, actually. They venture out of the forest occasionally, but boy do the city-transplants freak out over them!
We have some around here .There were lots around here at one time, There were black panthers and some like in your pictures. They migrate though and when they did my uncles cows would come up to the barn. They are beautiful but so scary looking.
We have mountain lions come through occasionally. Mostly when it's been dry and they are looking for water. dooley
Calomaar - I got those same pictures emailed to me from a friend that lives just south of you. I hear it is true, they are around. I guess we wait and see.
They're lovely cats, but I'd rather not meet one, let alone having one on my front porch! I love CP's term city-transplant, and I'm going to adopt it. The wolf and bear population is growing here, and that's fine with me as long as we're re-taught how to move in their areas.
Fantastic Pictures! Makes you think twice about grilling after dark. We have FL panthers down here although w/ the way S FL growth has exploded they are losing their habitats. I saw one in a tree on our barrier island 15 years ago when I was fishing. But they just don't seem to be around anymore.
I looked it up on Snopes.com. Apparently those cougar pictures, and deck, have reportedly originated in Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia, and Ontario Canada. The pictures were originally taken in 2001 or 2002 by Dr. Dave Rogers in Wyoming. Snopes is a cool site. If youre ever not sure look up stuff like this there. And the 'missing kids that have just gone missing last week for 7 years, over 7 over..... I typed in Wisconsin Cougar and found the article. They are cool pictures!
There has been reports of them in my neighborhood as well. The farm across the street has lost some calves and there was a sighting the next farm down. Ever since I heard those reports, I won't let my kids play alone outside unless the dog is with them. They are pretty but certainly not something I'd like to see peeking in MY back door!
Wow, so far, nothing like that around here. That would make one think twice about going out at nite-that would be very scary.
Gosh, I'd never step outside the door! The worst we get around here is coyotes, and the occasional "wolf," though I doubt that. I sure don't want to see a cougar.
Definatly, not a friendly visitor, my husband and I slept in deer stand one night because we heard one of these (or maybe a close cousin) yowling nearby and we were too scared to make the walk to the 4 wheeler.
