I've been looking around and been unable to find a direct answer as to whether I should or shouldn't pinch my sunflower. I have like 5 buds for my first bloom and I don't want tiny heads but it I still want it a bit tall. I don't know if I'm asking for too much...some advice would be greatly appreciated!
Usually tall varieties(10 ft or more) with lg heads have one big bloom. Shorter types are multi-headed. Just keep deadheading them until you want to save seed. Sunflowers are heavy feeders, so maybe a dose of fetilizer, compost or aged manure every so often. You can even mulch them with spoiled goat bedding if you have access to it. Don't use chicken litter unless it is aged at least a yr. It will burn the roots.
