Greetings from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! I have a lovely area in my yard which is made up basically of lots of great rocks. However, hanging over this area are about 6 maple trees and three times a year I have to hand pull every one of the cute little sprouts. Since there are very few plants in this rocky area, I was wondering if anyone knew of some type of herbicide I could use to get rid of them as they sprout. I've tried RoundUp and Weed-B-Gone, but so far no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I feel your pain. I spent many hours pulling those little trees out. Haven't really found any other method of eradication here, as they're in the middle of plants I can't risk harming. You do want to pull them when they're young though, the day after a good rain makes it pretty easy. Don't let them get a good root system going, or you'll be shoveling them out!
Oh how I sympathise with you as I've been hand pulling sycamore seedlings out of my own garden. As Pianolady says there really isn't a better way of getting rid of them I'm afraid.
Same here, and cedar seedlings as well! After a rain is a good time to pull them, as mentioned above.
My neighbor planted the tree that produces little green balls with a milky type substance in the middle.....her tree rains down baby trees in my yard...oh and ha ha ha a maple tree to how big are cedar seeds?
Thanks for the responses to the maple tree sprouts problem! Hey! Guess what I spent the morning doing???? You guessed it! Pulling maple tree sprouts!!! Cute little buggers. I'd like to thank Pianolady, Purpura, Griphook, Mtathome and Eileen for telling me something that I probably knew all along. Guess I'll be pulling till the day I die! Glad to hear that others have the same problem. You know, maple trees are my favorite tree!!! Just don't want so many of them. Thanks again! (Hopefully I'll hear from some more people!)
I dont mind them once they get huge....they are nice then I have them growing on my carport roof and on them i spray them with something cheap and easy like kerosene or however u spell it since I cant walk on the roof or reach them
