Wow, what a gorgeous garden. Continuing to evolve you say? I can't wait to see it's next evolutionary step.

Do you have more pictures? Maybe some of what it was like before the evolving began, those are always so interesting too.

That is a wonderful garden. How many years have you been maintaining it for?

    Brooklyn garden...

I have to dig out the old "existing" photos of the back yard. It's funny, when we moved in, it was like a cesspool. However, we dug up the ground and found buried bricks and and various sized 2-3" thick pieces of slate. Everything was stacked by size which inspired the varied height raised garden areas. We've been in this house going on 8 years. The bi-level excavation came about 4 years later. Not knowing what kind of soil we had coupled with a lot of shade (typical of Brooklyn back yards) we've experimented with so many different plants to the point where we didn't know what would last the season and what would reappear the next year. We've finally figured out the soil has a higher acid composition and was generally poor,clay-like and bad drainage. Over time, we've replaced soil, fertalized and God only know what else! Our bleeding hearts are absolutely Prehistoric! in size! Still having a bit of a problem getting a lot of flowers on the hydrangas but they look very healthy.

Jim you may have an invasion of GardenStew members all wanting a tour of you wonderful garden so beware!!!! :D You've achieved so much in a relatively short space of time and I openly admit to being ever so slightly (BIG understatement) envious of all that you've done. I'm really looking forward to more photographs from you. :-D

I like the gazebo too! sounds like a fun place to listen to the radio (dxing) and read/study the garden or sit back and just relax.
