Does anyone ride a bike for fun or exercise? My husband took mine down out of the garage last night so that I can start riding it to work. With the cost of gas I had to do something! :'( I live so close to my job that it is ridiculous for me to drive. I should have been walking or riding all along I think I'm going to spoil myself with a new bike for my birthday! The one I have now was bought at a yard sale about 10 years ago for $5. It has been wrecked so it drives a little woogedy. Not only that, I don't like to mess with the gears and all the speeds and those stupid hand brakes. I'm looking for an old fashioned grandma bike with fenders and a basket I can't wait!!! Deanna :-D
I bike every day. Everywhere I go, I bike. It's a bike culture over here with miles and miles of bike paths. You can travel the whole country on them. Good luck with that new bike. It'll be fun. There's nothing like a new bike for biking folk of any age.
I used to ride a bike a lot when we lived where it was flat. Now all the up and down isn't easy and my knees don't like it at all. Now my biking is done on an exercise bike that goes no where at all. I'd rather be going somewhere. dooley
I know Critter Painter has recently begun riding a bicycle again. I've only ever ridden a motorcycle.
Way to go Deanna! If I rode my bike to work it would probably take hours and I would be too tired to do any work when I got there! A pat on the back to you.
The only bike I ride is sitting in front of my T.V. It doesn't help much with my gas cost. I bought a bike last week and I can't keep my son off of it. I wish I could ride to work, but I work 20 miles away -I would be in intensive care. Enjoy the ride!!
I ride my bike for fun once in a while. I also work about 4 blocks away. But for now I'll use my car And have to when I work at night. My daughter and I walk for excerise.
I use to ride bikes all over the place but my first heart attack was from riding one Dr,says No more.
I haven't bicycled regularly for years. I used to bicycle to work in summer when I lived closer by. We've got lots of hills here, and with the unstable weather a bike ride is something we do for fun now and then. I ride my horse for exercise.
I use my bike all the time. I have the basket on the front, and the snap holder on the back behind the seat. I don't use it to go over the mountains to the store or anything, but i do use it to go to Selnes, or my neighbors, friends, the dairy for raw milk, or to the ocean when i want to take a longer ride. There are lots of bicyclist around here, and using a car is only for when you go over the mountain.
We have bikes & use them weather permitting. Just for fun and exercise. After my heart attack, the Dr. recommended that I ride more, as walking is hard with the arthritis in my feet. The problem here is weather, for 8 months it's pretty cold, and the snow, well that speaks for it self. Summers are great though, and we get in a good deal of biking then. We have 6 bikes, 2 for us, 2 for the kids and 2 for guests to use with us. Now that Alex is 4 years old, I'm guessing that we will be getting a small one for him too. Town is 8 miles away, and a pretty good ride, when you consider you need to ride another 8 to get home again. Plus I'm not the patient type, it takes too long to use the bikes. Tom
No bike riding here, everything is too far away and the traffic is terrible.....living in a large city has many drawbacks. But when I think about it, I haven't riden a bike in years so I guess the traffic keeping me off one is a good thing.
The kind of bike you are talking about is called a beach cruiser or somesuch name. Not too easy to find, you'll probably have to hit a fairly large bike shop to get one. If you wind up with a more common type (usually cheaper, too) just leave it in 1st gear all the time and you will have the same effect as far as gears go. I really think that once you whip yourself into shape you'll want the option of gears. The kind of brakes you want often wear out quickly, which is one reason hand brakes are so common. Just a quick reply for now, I'll try to get back later!
I found a bubblegum pink beach cruiser with fenders and a white basket on ebay! It is new, inexpensive and I can't wait!!! Deanna :-D
