Now I know what's been going on in my yard while I'm at work. For the last few days when I came home, they had this guilty look on their faces. Now I know why.

I'm way too innocent to understand what those two are up to. I'm also very good at telling fibs of course. :p
Isn't it great to be in the right place, at the right time and with your camera at the ready? :D

    right place, wrong time

I was walking outside to take a few shots of the branching pattern of a basswood tree I grew from seed that is now 12 yrs. old, to do a post on the importance of pruning the first 5 yrs. to develop growth forms usually not associated with that species. Then something caught my eye.

I guess I can say I grew it. I collected some seed from a tree I had planted years ago, and threw them in my shrub bed, and 1 seed sprouted. It stayed there for 2 yrs. and was only a foot tall when Rita rolled through and wiped out everything. It was then that I moved it to The Island Oasis. My dog Buck Buck is buried beneath it.

Basswood (Tilia caroliniana) usually grows with a pyramidal form then rounds out. Anyone ever see a mature tree in full sun blooming? It's something you're not soon to forget.

Notice those long, ribbon-like bracts pointing down, as this tree is about to bloom.

I get a thrill when I see those itty-bitty baby lizards. I get depressed when my cat goes hunting...

"Somehow, and I don't know how, I had become deeper, wider, more soulful, better at my craft; inspired by so many things like a world that is tilting who knows where."

    WAS WEIRD!
It was one early morning after the rain... lots of "doubles" on top of the soil...
