The novice here has just joined the group, thanks for all the notes of welcome. First question: When and how does one transplant hydrangea? We have two that were set on the north side of the house so we get frost damage ever other year or so and one of those in under an extended eave causing me to water more frequently. Second: When is the best time to divide and transplant daylilys? I bought a pack from Sam's club last year and they are going wild. Thanks
In both instances I'd wait until the plants became dormant and then transplant/divide them Diggerj. :-D
Daylilies are practically indestructable in my experience. I've moved them around before in the hottest part of the summer and they did fine as long as they got water.
I think fall would be a good time to transplant both. Early enough in fall to let them get a grip on the new location before winter, and late enough they don't struggle with heat. You will have to baby the hydrangea more than the lilies with watering.
