Folks, our county fair was held this past week, and again, a great success for Organic Gardening!
My wife, Laura, even received a written comment from one of the oldest judges at the fair about her Golden Hubbard Squash :)
I have never in the years I have been doing this, heard of a judge making a comment, and the lady at the fair who runs the vegetable competition said the same, first, her squash took three ribbons!
And here is the Judges written comment on the back of the tag[IMG]
    Lauras blue ribbon Largest Carrot
    [IMG]
Lauras red carribean Habanero and red hot cherry peppers
    [IMG]
Laura also took a ribbon for her apple butter, and apple sauce, in the culinary division we both did, but fer some reason I don't have a pic of the apple sauces
    [IMG]
But not to be out done in the culinary division, I took a blue ribbon for my white bread
    [IMG]
And a champion Ribbon for my Hot Salsa
    [IMG]
we got ribbons for our pickled Thai and Habanero peppers
    [IMG][IMG]
    Second for the Celery
    [IMG]
    3rd. for our veggie display
    [IMG]
got a 2nd. place for Herb display
    [IMG]
I got a Champion ribbon fer my Lima beans
    [IMG]
    Second for my red onions
    [IMG]
and a 2nd. place fer largest tomato

Tomorrow Laura will rock em' good in the potted blooming plant contest, the reason I say that, she is taking her (potted) Georgia Cotton! Lets see someone else in Minnesota that grew cotton!
All I gotta say is, we did good, and
BEHOLD THE POWER OF ORGANIC GARDENING

    That's awesome pharmerphil! Congratulations!
I'm hoping to enter some of my organic veggies and flowers in our town fair in September. I hope I do as well as you did :)

Congratulations to you and Laura, fantastic to see all your hard work being recognized by others.

    Everything looks delicious too.
I can't help but wonder about the people who sampled your (the other entrants) Thai and Habanero peppers, they must have stomachs of cast iron and cauterized taste buds after that event.

Well done the two of you on your victories. To get a comment must have taken something very special. Now all we need to know is how to reproduce your results :D

Frank, and everyone, thank You all very much.
I moved to this farm 10 years ago, there was a small garden spot, it looked quite sad, hardpan clay, didn't know how long it would take, and surely didn't realize how much work it was going to be, to get it to where it would produce.
Compost, literally pile after pile of compost.
Good aged sheep and chicken manures from local organic producers.
Bugs..Yep, the beneficials...being surrounded by farm fields, I didn't know if I was ever going to be able to establish their presence...time, herb and flower plantings to invite them in, no pesticides of any type...It's been along road, but now, the garden is alive with beneficials, the earth is packed full of friendly little microbes and many, many worms, and that hardpan clay..I can shove my hand, clear to my elbow into the garden in any given spot...wow, writing it all down, and reading it...no wonder I'm old and tired :D
