During the long weekend I visited my favorite nursery and just had to buy another daylily for 50% off!! I got to adding up in my head the daylilies I bought this year I spoiled myself with a "Vanilla Fluff" "Little Grapette" "Frans Hals" "Baja" "Siloam Something or Other" "Tropical Delight" "Apricot Jade" and a little one I bought off of EBAY. The Seller called it "Little Red Riding Hood" but I haven't found that name in any other searches. It must be something they made up. I'm kind of ashamed of myself I went hog wild this summer! It didn't really seem so bad until I stopped to add it all up!! Any other guilty gardeners out there? Deanna :-D
Nooooo - you'd NEVER find me buying too many plants!! Well apart from the car load I bring back from Holland each year and the 'must haves' that leap into my hands every time I visit a nursery or garden centre!!!!
I tried some new plants this year, Alternanthera "Party Time", and Persian Shield and was well pleased with both, I am going to root a lot of it for next year. I also tried a regular Shrimp Plant and a chartreuse Shrimp Plant, I was really pleased with the Chartreuse. I also got a Jacobinia, Plectranthus Mona Lavendar, Purslane "Cinderella", which all did good, in fact the last three are still blooming and so is the Chartreuse SP. Jacobinia: Oh, and the tri color sweet potato vine, excellent performer.
I tried a few new to me plants this year too. One of them, the tri color sweet potato vine, was a big disappointment to me but I'll give it another chance next year in a spot with less sun. I spent a lot on shrubs again this year and they are all doing well. But yes Deanna, I tend to go a little "hog wild" too! I just can't help myself!
We bought quite a few plants this year after we moved into the house. Unfortunatly a lot died....so sad! I felt pretty guilty when I stopped to think about how much we've probably spent and that most of it died! But, we've learned a lot too. So, hopefully our garden will be doing better from now on.
I can say that I might have bought a lot but the most expensive was my Vanilla Fluff at WalMart for $12.44. So all-in-all I didn't spend too terribly much. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! Deanna :-D
Glad to hear you indulged yourself. :-D I was quite good this summer after my three giant truckloads of spring plants. I didn't have another pot or an inch of ground to squeeze anything in. I will buy a few bulbs to put in next month. 8)
Bethie, I have a hard time controlling myself when it comes to bulbs! It doesn't seem like I have very many until I'm scooting around on the ground with aching knees and an aching back after digging all those little holes I have learned the easiest way to do it is to dig one big hole, fill it with lots of bulbs and in the spring I have a huge splash of color! Deanna :-D
