The Perennial Plant Association has named the 2010 Perennial Plant of the Year Baptisia Australis.
I absolutely love this plant...gorgeous blue blooms, beautiful foliage all year, no pests. So I have just one question... What took them so long? :D

Netty, those flowers are a lovely tint of purple. I can see those in a border somewhere. I wonder if the bees like those.

    Very pretty!

Our plant of the year 2010 is the Gentiana sino-ornata "Borge". I haven't got that one, so I'll have to look out for it. :D

    COOL...
    i love purples.
    and if it's a care-free perennial, i'm 100% for it.
so i need to get it.
think i saw it for sale at some nurseries, but could be wrong.
    SAME goes for the gentiana.
i was always afraid to get it, and sometimes it was too expensive.
lol... 2,5 GBP or let's say 3-4 USD is a lot for me...
kidding. i am just not a spender!
    hehehe

It IS about time they chose this one! Baptisia is a great plant here in Nebraska. Such a beautiful blue color, and so tolerant of heat and other extreme conditions. I also love the seed pods left on the plants as winter interest.

Glenda ~ it does not get out of hand, but it does grow to be quite large so it does need a lot of room. The one in the last photo is almost 5 feet tall and almost as wide.
Sjoerd ~ the bees LOVE it!
