While working out in my gardens yesterday, twice I thought I heard the territorial chirps of Hummingbirds. Spring has been very slow to arrive this year so I figured there was NO WAY that Hummingbirds could have arrived already. How wrong I could be!! I checked the Hummingbird Migration Map http://www.hummingbirds.net/map.html only to discover that Hummingbirds had been reported in my area over a week ago! I'm off to clean and hang the feeders just in case as there is nothing else to eat here yet!
Yes, Yes Toni...I have heard them. I have even heard their wings. We usually h ave one sit on a particular branch on a tree outside of my kitchen window. Haven't seem that yet...that will probably happen when the eggs get here.... :-D Maybe they will follow me into the house again this year. Do you think they like it here??
Our hummingbirds have been around for about a month, which is late for Central Texas. We have Ruby Throats here--what hummingbirds do you have, Netty? How many feeders do you put out?
Our hummers are late this year, too. One came about a month ago, and the others just started coming late laast week. Neat migration link netty!
Alas there are no Hummingbirds this side of the pond,..our Swallows have arrived but no insects for them to eat,..we should have Mayfly but none as yet. Philip
We have Ruby Throats too. There was one year we had what must have been a stray of another sort. I looked it up at the time and have it written down somewhere. I put 3 feeders out yesterday, but no sign of them yet. They usually arrive when the Lilac's bloom.
I put my feeder up too, just this weekend. I don't have a clue if any will come, but I'm going to give it a try. Where I lived before they weren't very prolific, but in this new house, 30+ miles from the other one, I'm hoping that will change.
Yikes from checking out the map I better get my feeders up as well. So far no sightings in my yard. Great info. Thank you.
