I had to laugh too Jewell. :D

Where the heck would you keep a bird like that so that it'd be safe? If it caught a chill you'd be panicking. :smt010 Can you imagine what insurance companies would say when you told them that you'd spent that on just one chook?

I'm sure there will be people though with cash to burn who would buy one. However I would NEVER spend that amount of money on just a single Chicken!! This quote wouldn't make me any keener to have one either.

"To be fair, it is an all black chicken," she says. "So it's very chic. Its feathers are black. Its organs are black. Its meat is black. So it's very special, it's a rare breed chicken."

There are centres here where you can get rescue chickens for next to nothing. If I decided to keep chooks then I'd go to some of those. :smt045 I could have a whole field full of them for the price of just one of those black ones.

$2500 per chicken--cheep ( :) ) at the price! After you build a predator-safe coop, put in the required nest boxes, watering stations, and feeders, then find out that your hens require Wifi, flat screen TVs, a Jacuzzi, and like gourmet food, $2500 is fairly inexpensive!
I'd never spend that much for a chicken. I worry myself silly over our $2.39 each chicks. Anything that expensive would be in the house with us, sleeping in the guest bedroom. Wait a minute, the cheap chicks do that . . . .

Oh my word! Now I've heard it all. A "collector's item?"
I can think of a whole lot of other things to spend $2500 on.

My chickens are just regular chickens, several different breeds, but I love them anyway. I guarantee that I did not pay anywhere near that kind of money for regular chickens! Some were gifts, and some I paid $5 each.

Jane?? Your chickens have WiFi? Do they have their own web page? Computer? Now I know where the typing term hunt and peck came from. :)

It reminders me of the 'Tulipmamia' period during the 1600's in Holland. As soon as breeders start raising these chickens here, the price is bound to drop.

And...I know this chicken wasn't bought to be eaten, but the idea of black chicken on my plate is rather off-putting.

    A fool and his money....

Ditto Cayuga... IF I eat poultry, I much prefer the white meat. It tastes better and has more eye appeal.

To be fair...I love the look of this bird...but I would never pay that kind of $$ for one. (I have other things that are far more important than the idea of a "collectors item" mentality to spend money on... like my kids. My oldest just got laid off and I feel so bad for him, but at least he doesn't have a family to provide for, so if you all want to take up a 2500.00 collection for him I will see that he puts it to good use. for room and board and gas money and food for the time being, until he finds another job...) And like Jane, I cringe at my free-$5.00 birds kicking off, let alone a 2500.00 bird.
