This is where I take most of my water bird images. There are always some herons there. Today I counted 42 and then there were some on the island. I took a couple of pictures of them as I could not get them all in on one shot. I don't think I got them all in two either. The two picture are not of the same herons bye the way. Well I've seen a few herons together but 42+ I wonder what is attracting them all to the one area? Has the lake been re-stocked with fish or has something recently spawned, and hatched, in large numbers? Amazing shots.
Hi Eileen. It is not a lake. it is sea. The tide is out at this time. They built a causeway forming a lagoon. This photo shows a bit more of the lagoon, When the high tides come in the winter and early spring, all the land you see will bo covered by the sea. Visit The Lagoon. Oops sorry Kildale. It's just that the scenery around the salt water lagoon is nothing like the ones you get around our seas. The wildlife certainly seem to enjoy the lagoon and it must be a rich feeding area. We do have Herons fishing in salt water here too but, once again, never in the numbers you witnessed.
Wow, Kildale, so many herons, never knew they fed in groups. Great photo's too. (And there's me getting all exited whenever there's one lone heron on my neighbour's roof (it sometimes comes to steal fish from their pond)..... :-D
Hi Kildale, its an eye opener for me as well,..never came across so many Herons in one group,..we have nesting areas here on the lake,..but the most i would see would be around five or six,..now Cormorants!,..whew,.. flocks!.
wow thats amazing never seen so many together, makes me want to grab a fishing rod whereabouts in BC is it?
