It was July 4th and I was 8 years old. Our neighbor down the road invited us down for refreshments and to watch the fire works. They lived about a 1/2 mile closer to town and on a hill. And from their place you could see the fireworks at the fairground 4 1/2 miles away. The refreshments were homemade raspberry pies and homemade ice cream! Life was a lot more simpler back then. The enjoyment of good friends and simple food. The woman that invited us just turned 103 last week. The picture of her in the paper had her looking like she is in her 70's.
25 years ago tonight, Randy and I were sitting in my hospital room watching the fireworks from a couple of cities north of us. Our youngest daughter had been born a few days before. A couple whose son had been born the day after our daughter were with us and the nurses brought us all some Sparkling Grape Juice and cookies to celebrate. Small hospital then, we were the only two new Mom's in the maternity ward.
Cap't what a nice memory. Thanks for sharing it with us. I was in the same boat, Toni, I had had a c-section on the first and was there for a few more days,too...My brothers widow was in another hospital and had just had her first baby from her second marriage....what a long ago/yesterday memory.
And was nice when kids knew to stand up when parade came with USA flag came by. And people brought paper fans-ones on stick to make yourself cool.
