Hi! My name is John. I live just inside the city of Flint on 3 city lots. I first started veggie gardening about 30 years ago and it sure has been a learning experience. I started out with a 20 x 20 patch, moved up to a 50 x 100 ft garden, eventually got tired of all the weeding and bending so I'm now gardening in sixteen raised beds. Well, I do also have a 12 x 50 ft bed that I put 72 tomato plants in just for canning. I start almost all of my veggie plants from seed under lights in my basement.

I spend most of my Summers either in the garden our up at our lake place just outside Harrison, Michigan, when not going on "Papa's Adventures" with my grandkids.

I'm looking forward to talking with you folks and hopefully learning more tips to make gardening easier.

    John

It's great to have you 'on board' John and I think you'll be a great asset to GardenStew. :-D You must let us see photographs of your raised beds - did you construct them yourself?

Hello again everyone and thank you for the warm welcome.

Eileen, yes I did build them myself, but it took me the better part of 3 years to do so. Each bed is 3 ft wide by 12 ft long by 17 inches high (the height of a kitchen chair) and has benches running down both sides so I can sit to plant, weed and harvest.
And yes I will post some pics of them one of these days.

Hi Petunia, I love northern Michigan and someday before I leave this life, hope to live in the northern pine forests. Flint is no longer the city I grew up in and is basically turning into a ghost town.

    John

Hi John....Welcome to the stew...I just had to check out your garden pictures and they are great. I feel guilty now with just 2 tomatoes on the side of the garage. I need the rest of the room for flowers.... I sure wish my neighbors had big gardens so I could get some of the goodies...Sherry8
