This was a surprise when I walked into the sunroom this week. I noticed the buds, and was waiting (hoping) to see the pretty yellow flowers again. It is a thirsty one, and I have been giving it a very weak solution of Miracle Grow every month.
I had this plant all summer, and thought I would squeeze it into the sunroom for the winter. I hoped to just keep it alive so I can enjoy it again next summer, but to bloom in December is a real treat for me. There are more buds too! :stew2: :stew1:

Wow , that is amazing, flowering hibiscus inside, never seen it before, they are always outside here, never thought of it being an indoor plant.

Brilliant, Kay. You must be well chuffed with THAT!
It is just the right colour for the winter time. I think that I see more buds on the way.
    This is exciting.

Hi Calin, The Tropical Hibiscus loves my hot, humid summer weather. They are sold as annuals. I have never over-wintered one. Not that I haven't tried, but I usually just let em go at the end of the growing season.
I have another bloom as of yesterday, and a bud that may open today. :stew1: :-D
    Happy plant. happy gardener!

Well, I used to have about 5-6 tropical ones. Kinda small, most of them from rooted cuttings from trades. Even the ones in shops are kinda small.
The bigger ones are also too expensive.
I loved them when in bloom, but always got only one, maybe 2 blooms and most of the time NONE.
    So... I gave most away.
Kept two. At parents' house. Last year... not even one flower. I "knew" they liked shade, so they were in the shade.
Now.. I "know" they like sun!
    WHICH IS RIGHT?
    :)

The Tropical Hibiscus love the sun, water, humidity and heat. The ones I buy for summer just bloom their heads off!
They can be kind of pricey. I have a lot of customers that want them big for patio containers around swimming pools, patios, porches etc. They are such striking colors too.
One of the reasons I wanted to over-winter my plant is the money I spent on it. I'm hoping to enjoy it as long as possible.

Wow Kay! So I guess that's why. I kept my 2 in the shade LOL...
Now it makes sense (the lack of blooms).
And another myth I hope you can tell me it's true or not.
Do they like to be in a rather small than large pot?
    Like... be a little root-bound?
