While on the way to the pastry supply shop near to a market yesterday, for the first time in my life I saw bunches of pineapples ...wow!!!

So I picked up a bunch and I had more than 50 pineapples in one hand :D

I asked the fruit seller about it and she said that it is only available before Chinese New Year and it is very rarely seen. Chinese people like to have pineapples in their house during Chinese New Year because it brings prosperity and luck. In Chinese pineapple is called "ong lai" meaning prosperity and luck come so if they are in bunches then the prosperity and luck will also come in bunches!!! :D

I've never seen anything like that before. The Chinese people around here have not, to my knowledge, ever displayed pineapples in that way. I wonder if you could plant them up and get lots of pineapple plants?

I've never seen pineapples like that either! Are you going to try to grow some of them KK?

Those are great. We frequently shop in the oriental markets around here, I will have to see if they have any.

    Thanks all.

Eileen, I'm sorry I have no idea if they could be planted or not.

Cherylad, sorry I did not buy them because I don't think that they can be planted, frankly they look confusing to me!!!
