Had a pair of redtail hawks flying around this afternoon. This is a pic of the female and I was quite a ways from her. I was standing at the front window. The male is almost twice as big as her. I would say she is about 2 1/2 ft. tall.
I have seen them reach almost 3 ft. My Dad always called them chicken hawks, they are known to scoop up chickens. I have seen them pluck full sized squirrels out of the same trees she is setting in too.
