Well its not the kind of day you would expect! We went because I wanted to hunt rocks,,lol. Yep thats right rocks, only the smooth, worn, kind that the ocean can give you, so I could use as decoration in my developing gardens. We been having some terriable weather, snow, ice, hail, then sun only to melt it all, then start all over again. While I was picking out my rocks that my two men would haul up to the car, KB took this video. The awesome power of the North Sea. Click the photo.
Wow!!---what an action foto. The North Sea is an awsome force. It has taken so many of our sailors through the years...sometimes whole male family menbers. In some cities you can see the placks. In a lovely little city that was once an island, Urk...you can see a poignant statue of a woman facing out to see, her dressand hair beiong blown....at her feet in a semicircle on the wall of the small panorama viewing wall..are placks with the names of the men lost at see. It is tragic to see the names of a father and his sons...It was a brave lot that would take on the North Sea for some fish in those days. This foto of yours really conveys it's power and dangerous nature.
Thank you Sjoerd,,, we have here statues of our wife woman, who is also looking out to sea, waiting. Here on this island many, many families lost all their men in just one family. A cousin of KB's who now lives down in Stavanger, was one of those women, its just her and her daughter, who is now a grown woman herself with grown children. But it happens here alot, but not as much as it used to with advanced technology. I think down near Droopy or its in Bergen there is a monument out in the sea with a woman and her children. All our monuments up here are also out on a rock in the sea. So the North Sea can be a very powerful thing.
Those sorts of statues wherever they are have such a moving implication. If one just pauses to actually THINK about their meaning....it's sort of a chilling and very sad feeling that he gets. So tragic. I have been at sea when it was rude and I'll tell you it is a sobering experience. With huge graphite waves that tower over you like a house and no vision of land anywhere...with a wild wind blowing a driving rain...a person feels very small and vulnerable on the face of this earth.
Lovely film! Sjoerd, did you click on the photo to see the film, or did you forget about it? If Biita remembers, maybe she could send Kolbjørn down and film on a stormy day too. I bet the white foam and splash is spectacular then! We've also got a fisherman's widow-statue in town. I guess most coastal towns have one of those. Maybe I should go art hunting one of these days, I'm not sure what's outside anymore. I don't visit town that often.
Thanks Droopy,, The thing about this film is, and I should of put it in the opening, is that one rock there is twice as tall as a 6' man! All those rocks are huge. KB was leaning on one rock and it was jut below chest. and he's very close to 6' or 180 cm. So that should tell you just how hard those waves were. We kept saying this would be a surfers dream if it wasn't so cold,,lol.
My goodness, I could almost feel the wind and cold sea spray hitting my face. I have seen pictures of those memorial statues, my heart aches when thinking about the loss so many families suffered.
Thank you Biita for the video. I miss traveling so much and I felt like my spirit had been freed. I envy you being able to be so close to a site like that. Well enjoy your sea, I have a lot of hot dusty roads here in MS.

Nature's a powerful force, definitely not to be reckoned with. As long as you keep a safe distance from the raging sea Biita keep the videos coming.
No Droopy...I did not twig that the foto was in fact a link to a video... (( :-? )). What a loon, eh? Having seen the video now, it's even more clear how wild and exciting that coast is. Sorry I didn't realize it Biita. Whewn you said that your man took a video, I thought that you had isolated one frame and posted that. Thanks again for the videooo and thanks again to you, Droopy for giving me a "wake-up shake".
Thanks all, It was a very windy day thats for sure! Its finally warming up a little, and the sun is finally showing itself. We had snow yesterday about 3 inches,, that was a shock, since even tho it had beening snowing, the sun would come out and melt it all. Surprisingly is my plants all made it tho the snow!
Nice video, Biita! Reminds me of the Bering Sea between Alaska and Russia. There is a TV show in the States called "The Deadliest Catch" about crab fishing in the Bering Sea. I've included a link to the web site fan club for the show. The video on waves is incredible. The soundtrack is great and very appropriate for the action in the video..
