I took the morning off on Friday and headed up into hills near my home . The weather was warm and sunny , almost an Indian Summer . This the man made reservoir that supplies water to Dublin city Down in the trees here is Luggala House owned by one of the heirs to Guinness fortune . Michael Jackson , the singer and his family are supposed to have stayed here last month ( 30000 euros a week ) I traveled on up the old military road built as famine relief , you can turn around 360 degrees an not see any structure or person . At this spot I am incredibly only 20 mins away from a population of 1.25 million Some natural Irish landscaping I visited the ww1 and ww2 German graveyard in Glencree . It has to be the most beautiful and tranquil graveyard in Ireland It is a natural amphitheatre and the sound of the nearby stream echoes all around 8) Bugs
Just beautiful Bugs. Thanks for posting them. This may sound like one of those silly American type questions....but do thatched roof cottages with front gardens really exist? It may be like the questions Texans get when they travel to other areas of this country.....does everyone ride a horse, do you own cows, do you have indoor plumbing (yep a real question I was asked about 35 years ago when I lived in Colorado)
www.limerickdioceseheritage.org/Adare.htm you can see the village my parents in law live in . A lot of Ireland is no different from any other country but we still have some little gems like Adare which is over 1000 years old 8) Bugs
Thanks for the pictures Bugs. Breathtakingly beautiful. Ireland is on my top 5 places to visit, someday.
Bugs, thanks for the tip on doing the google search. I found some absolutely gorgeous cottages and countryside. Especially the most common one with the trellis made from tree branches at the front door. If I could ever live there I don't think you could drag me away with a team of horses. :-D
You're in danger of making a certain someone homesick Bugs Ireland is beautiful there is no doubt about it. Looking forward more and more to my Xmas trip now.
Bugs what can I say - Ireland is next in line to Scotland for scenery (I'm totally biased of course) and has some lovely tranquil spots. I've only ever seen the Irish countryside for myself once but I came away with so many wonderful memories both of its landscapes and its people. I would dearly love to go back again someday. Thank you for posting your photogrpahs.
Beautiful pictures Bugs. I especially like the last one. Would love to sit down with a book and enjoy an afternoon by the water. My great, great grandparents on my fathers said were from Ireland. Info I have says they came from Leitrim Ireland - left for Candada and then the United States in the late 1840's. I've never been able to find any records of them in Ireland.
Absolutely stunning pictures. We have visited Ireland (and Scotland) and they are unsurpassed for beauty. I took so many pictures in Ireland, I had to buy another flash card. I think I took close to 900 pics---couldn't stop myself from trying to take some of that beauty home. Jan
Really beautiful, thanks so much for sharing these. Love the quote from Father Ted REALLY love all the lambies on the hillsides (used to raise lambies & spin their wool!)
Lovely pictures. They make me "homesick and I have never been to Ireland. I think it must be in the genes. Oh well, someday maybe. dr
Oh, what wonderful pictures. The countryside is quite beautiful. Always wanted to visit Ireland -- maybe some day. the group I went on a short trip with yesterday has a tour planned sometime next year--very tempting, but I doubt I will be able to go on that. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
