I haven't posted any new photos in a while... been waiting on something good to show. The Pride of Barbados proved itself to me again this year. A definite keeper and still one of my favs. Pride of Barbados ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Pride of Barbados ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Pride of Barbados ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) I started some Hardy Hibiscus from seed. A few of the Pinks have bloomed... none of the reds or whites YET. Hardy Hibiscus ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And at last... my Esperanza started to bloom. Darn thing is HUGE... even one of the branches snapped off because of it's weight. But at least it's starting to put on blooms. Yea! Thanks everyone! The "Pride" had me worried. Seems it bloomed earlier last year.... but it's putting on lots of flowers now. I was about to give up on the Esperanza because I've seen them in full bloom everywhere for weeks now. I guess it decided to use it's energy to grow instead of producing blooms. Guess I have me a "late bloomer". Frank... our heat isn't as bad as what Toni has been getting "up north". Actual temps have been hovering around 97F... with feel like temps of 105F. Just normal stuff for August in SE Texas!
OMG! Those are stunning. I can't believe the number of plants that I've never heard of. Esperanza & Pride Of Barbados.Quite a ways out of my zone. Can grow hardy Hibiscus & once had some seed raised. sNs
Hi Cheryl, the wait was wort it,..and what a show that Pride Of Barbados makes,..beautiful colour and what a shape,..stunning. I hope the other Hibiscus bloom for you,..the one in the picture is set off well with the red glow in the middle. Esperanza,..it is HUGE,..its awesome and a lovely colour as well.
sNs... I know what you mean! I've seen and learned about so many different plants here.... stuff from "up north", "down under", "across the pond" and everywhere in between. Wish I could have one of each! Donna... I'm excited to the see the Texas Star bloom for you. I'm sure you'll be pleased with all of the blooms to come. Philip... the flower of the Esperanza isn't that big... probably just a couple of inches. I got the plant from a silent auction at a church bazaar . It had just a couple of blooms and it was labeled "trumpet flower". I thought I'd found a yellow trumpet vine (the flowers are pretty similar). But come to find out, it was the Esperanza instead. No complaints... except the darn thing has a couple branches over 6 foot tall and they are now laying on the ground with new "limbs" shooting upwards. Silly plant!
Jerry... I originally got the seeds from Hubby's sister and didn't jot down their name because I thought it would be so easy to remember. WRONGO! I even posted a photo of a seedling here trying to ID it. Closest I could come to recalling the name.... (okay everyone, get ready to laugh at me)... was "Prince of Barcelona". Okay... y'all can stop laughing at me now... it wasn't that far off.
