A fern is just a fern, and to most people they all look the same. There are some neat ferns. When walking in the woods, I have put a few images together in a page that may help to ID them for you. Woodland Ferns

Most pass by ferns, I suppose if they had colorful flowers people would pay more attention. While I am not good at identifying unusual ferns, I did learn from a booklet bought at a state park, how to subdivide ferns into categories thus aiding in the identification process, Cut once, twice of three times would reduce the possibilities. Of course maybe we only need Kildale's Woodland Ferns site.:) Excellent pictures to use on a field trip through the woods.

I think ferns are pretty and I wish I was able to grow them (well, I havent actually tried yet...need to loosen soil and add compost and such first!) and I can only identify the ones most ommonly sold in nurseries lol

I'm much like Philip as I have quite a few ferns in my garden. I, also, can only name about 3 or 4 but they all look good growing at the sides of my waterfall. Now I can keep your photographs as a reference in the hope that some of the ferns you've shot also grow over here.

Who was it just the other day trying to ID a fern? I bet they could find their answer in Kildale's photo collection.
