I had earlier posted on the Flowers forum that we were donating some Texas native plants to the Waco Zoological and Botanical Society. We delivered the plants Friday, and then enjoyed a morning at the zoo. Here are some of the sights: Donna the bear ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) Donna is one of the two bears in the Brazos River exhibit, which features flora and fauna occuring along the Brazos from Cap Rock Canyon to the Gulf. It's quite an overview of a part of Texas! Calico cat, of a different pattern ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) This jaguar, or one of its cousins, can still be found in some parts of Texas, mainly to the southwest. Tropical fish in Waco Zoo Aquarium ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) The zoo also has a magnificent aquarium, with fish found in Texas rivers and lakes, and in the Gulf. I have no idea what this pretty fish is, having only snorkled in the Caribbean, which has a whole different eco-culture. The zoo is part of a breeding program for endangered species, and was recently honored by being selected to house three orangutans. We are hoping for a little orange baby in a few years!
So glad you enjoyed your trip to the Waco Zoological and Botanical Society as we benefit by seeing your great photographs. :-D
Eileen and Netty, How kind of you! I wish I could take credit for the photos, but that was my husband. He is the digital camera guru!
