We are having the first rainy day in months, and I thought I would post a few photos from my garden. The heat and drought have really taken a toll on the gardens but there are still a few things blooming. This is 'Scentimental' , this years birthday Rose 'Marmalade Skies' in full bloom A volunteer Poppy The cheery blooms of Coreopsis The Hydrangea's are having a good year The Lavender I thought I had lost The heat is really taking it's toll in this garden - there is usually so much more color here this time of year. The Phlox doesn't look bothered The Bee Balm is having a good year too Scabiosa I'm really loving the Butterfly Weed this year This old tub was abandoned in the bush. I brought it home and gave it a new life with some Petunia's And finally, a photo of the Rhubarb before the hay was cut in the fields behind. I've taken over 100 stalks off this plant this year and it is still going strong! I love the way the tall grass makes it look like it is in the middle of nowhere
If I had that many beautiful blooms in the heat and drought I would be in hog heaven....everything looks wonderful. Now about that shed by the rhubarb, that is a wonderful looking building. Can we see more of it?
Toni... Maybe Netty's heat isn't as hot as ours? Netty... everything looks gorgeous! And I love that last photo with the rhubarb.
I wouldn't wish our heat on anyone....well I can think of one or two people I would like to send it to I love looking at photos of your garden Netty. It is always so full of color and healthy looking. You and Sjoerd are my idols of the gardening world.
Your volunteer poppy is a really lovely colour Netty. I thought I'd done well with my rhubarb this year but got nowhere as many stalks as you've had. Everything looks so colourful and healthy - obviously your weather agrees with your garden.
Netty, The poppy was my favorite, too! I wish I had a volunteer like that one. If you let it go to seed would you trade me or I send you postage for some of the seeds? Thanks.
Lookin good, Netty! It doesn't seem that the heat has taken a toll by the looks of these pretty pics. But I do know what you mean, it has been so hot here too. We haven't gotten any rain for so, so long!
Thanks all! Toni and Cherylad - I'm sure OUR hot and YOUR hot are two completely different things! While it has been way above our 'normal', especially when you add in the humidex, it's probably no where near as hot as you are used to. Oubee - my kids gave me the 'Scentimental' Rose for my birthday last month. Now that my daughter drives, she took her siblings to the greenhouse and they picked it out for me. I love it! Eileen and Carolyn - I haven't actually PLANTED any Poppies for a few years now. Every once in a while when I spread around compost a few pop up in unexpected places. I must remember to save some seeds this year! Thank you Pianolady Stratsmom - We found that old tub on an exploration in the woods one day and I dragged it all the way home. When my husband saw it he said "what the heck are you going to do with that piece of junk?" hehe He hasn't commented on the flowers growing in it yet...if he has even noticed it yet I don't know. Kay - I thought we had a GOOD rain this morning, but when I started digging it was only wet on the top. I really hope we get some more soon.
Here you go Toni, I just went out and snapped both sides of the shed. It is actually my daughters 'fort', but it used to house hens and then rabbits before we bought the place. This side has the rhubarb, blackberries and herbs - tarragon, mint, chives, oregano, sage and lemon balm. This side has a few blooms - Lillies, Lady's Mantle, Allium, and Poppies. When we got here, the door and front window was missing and the ones here are from an abandoned boat. The curtain was nice, but the mice ate it this winter
Your shed is absolutely charming Netty. I also love your volunteer poppy and wish one would volunteer its way to my house! Beautiful flowers
Super posting, Netty. I really enjoyed the pics and the variety of what you have. They are placed so well together. That little garden house really is nice. it looks attractive with the plants all round. Chapeau!
Oh, my goodness. That 'fort' is wonderful, I'll bet your daughter had many great adventures in there. The plants around it look beautiful. Do you mind if I nip a copy of them, I am starting a file of shed photos...I love the different kinds.
