My neighbor gave me a rose he bought at lowe's it has red, yellow, pink & white blooms all on one bush, thanks to the power of grafting.

Along with this beautiful gift, all my other roses broke out with black spot, so I am guessing the new rose had a hidden gift.

I was outside treating my roses & I started to wonder how everyone else treats black spot & why I my roses get it so often.

So, how do you treat black spot?

Is there a way to make my roses not get it as often as they do? (they get it ALL the time.)

    I treat it by:

    1. Spray the rose with milk
    2. Clean up all the fallen leaves around the plant
    3. Get the leaf blower out & blow away any debris from around the base of the plant
    4. Water, I water them around the base, anywhere else will wash off the milk.
    5. Go through the rose & pluck off any dead or almost dead leaves.
    6. Spray with more milk.

I do that daily, my family makes fun of me, because of how I take care of them "like a baby"

I hate answering questions with questions, but...may I ask why you spray the roses with milk? What does that do? I've never heard of it.

And I apologize for not having an answer for you & possibly asking a stupid question. :(

Milk is an organic way to kill black spot, black spot doesnt like the sugars in Milk. I try to use cheap/organic/easy ways to do things in my garden & almost everything is 100% recycled.

I used to use Funginex until this year when a ban was put into place in my area.
I'll definitely be trying milk Stephanalta. Black Spot in my Roses was out of control this year!

I use Bayer All-in-one on my roses, Stephanalta. Inbetween spraying with an antifungal, probably once a week in Fla. Cleaning up the infected fallen leaves is important too.

The rose your neighbor gave you sounds like a Joesph's Coat Rose. :stew2:

I wish it was a joseph's coat, but these roses dont change color, just more then one color was grafted onto this plant, its called a "color blend" rose, & he happened to find one with 4 colors, normally they only have 2.

It was very thoughtful of him to buy you the rose bush. Too bad it had issues. My co-worker gave me a small peace lily that had a black fly infestation :scheming: Those little buggers are hard to get rid of too!
