We got about 2 inches of snow last night. I was watching the birds and squirrels at the bird feeder. The feeder hangs from a double shepherds crook. The crook is about 1/2 inch in diameter and steel. All of a sudden this one squirrel starts climbing the pole! I have no idea how he could do it. When he got up it about 6 ft. he reached out to grab the feeder and he slid down and plopped his butt into the snow! He was so imbarrased he ran off without any seeds! I reached for the camera, but it all happened so fast, I couldn't get it turned on in time.
Right after I posted this, I walked back into the living room and he was at it again. I guess he saw that no one was watching. But I got a picture this time as he was coming back down. He still didn't get any seeds!
Persistent little thing isn't he? The squirrels never attempt to get up my metal feeding pole and just hang about underneath hoping some food will fall.
These are such determined little fellows. If you want to see a funny sight take a jar of vaseline and oil the pole .They will still try but they will jump to try to get past it and butts will go down faster. My neighbors keep a pvc pipe with the bird fleeder on top. Those squirrels never quit trying. They will rub off the oil on themselves trying. It is redone daily to keep then out of that feeder.
I sprayed my shepherds crook with 'Pam'. That didn't help...the squirrel jumped up about 8' and helped himself. They are determined if nothing else.
He made it up there 2 or 3 times. But it is a squirrel proof feeder and he still didn't get any seeds. It's wire mess and the metal top locks on.
