Last night we had quite the storm after it got dark. The lightening was so spectacular I grabbed my digital camera and started shooting. Was very frustrated because just as great lightening shot across the sky I'd push the button only to see nothing in my camera viewer.
I kept at it and this is one of the photo's I did manage to capture. It looks like a tornado but thankfully it was not. Only lightening.

I have always loved watching storms. I was so thrilled to get these photos.

Marlin, thank you so much for the patch. No I wasn't scared at all. When us kids where small my Mom would get us up at night to watch God put on a beautiful lightening show.
I guess I would rather be enjoying the show than fearing it. Maybe our family is a bit wacky. But we all love a good lightening show with thunder. :-D

I've watched lightening storms here but never seen a lightening tornado. What excellent shots you managed to get Tooty.

Tooty, you are most welcome for the patch--you earned it!
Lightning makes me nervous--we have thunder/lightning storms here and being in the country, we can see the flashes when a transformer goes, or when a tree is hit. A good storm (at a distance) is a sight to behold, but I am still very apprehensive when one gets close.

I lived in Illinois as a kid and was in a couple close tornados. Close as in we got wind and rain and slight damage but missed the great lot of damage. Porches blown off and parts of roofs missing, etc but not the whole house or barns. So, I'm nervous in storms if there is any wind at all with them. I see a great part of the country is having severe thunderstorms tonight due to a hurricane forming off of the west coast of Mexico and Baja. Those are the ones I don't like. Lots of clouds here but only a few sprinkles so far.

Marlin I understand completely. Lightening can do a lot of damage.

Dooley --last year we had category 1 tornado come threw our area. The neighbor down the road had his pole barn half blown away and moved off of its foundation.
The farmer across the road from him lost the roof off of his cattle barn and one silo top. We hardly ever have tornados here. But that one took everyone by surprise.
I only called it a tornado because of it's shape. No tornados with last nights storm.
    Thank heavens. :stew1:

I really don't enjoy storms-never have and never will but I do admire those who can and do! I do,however enjoy looking at beautiful pictures of lightning and your shots fall into that category Tooty.Well done for two excellent captures.

That is very beautiful and scarey. when the skies get that look I am very cautious about where I am. I love to see your pictures but I would be, with my 2 puppies, in my pantry.

KK Ng Thank you. It only took 187 photos to get the few I did manage to capture. Lightening is very sneaky. It was a game of hide and seek.

2ofus, Kaismum thank you so much.

Barb I understand fully. I use to have a black lab that would go and hide in my cloths closet when there was a storm. You could have put a steak right in front of her and she would have only look at and continued to shiver. Our little poodle-tooth could care less about the storms. She only barks at the thunder if it is to loud. I think she is trying to tell the angels to stop with the bowling already. :stew1:
