A friend stopped by with a jug of wine. Here is the story: http://cappyandpegody.blogspot.com/2015/02/a-little-jug-of-whinenot.html Here is the jug:
It's sweet very fruity and definitely stronger than store bought. The great thing about living in a small town is stuff like this story happen all the time. Our plums came full circle
Love homemade wine. A friend brought me a bottle of elderberry wine, but it was a whole lot smaller then your bottle.
Great story and great looking wine...it looks like the jug the people around here get water from the grocery store in...I just can't figure out how these small people lift the jug when it is full...
The problem with those jugs is when full they don't poor good. they glug and can make a mess. Thats why i start off by using a siphon for the first couple gallons after that they pour well into a funnel.
After siphoning off the first couple of gallons, into your glass I suppose, even hitting the funnel would be a problem. My hubby has made various wines in the past, smaller bottles thankfully. His most volatile one was a combo of Jalapeno - Habanero that could literally melt your socks.
I cant imagine making wine out of peppers but it sounds interesting. did it ferment have any alcohol was it spicy????
The wine was quite spicy (blistering would be a good description) and had a good alcohol content. I labeled it "Gently Refined Jet Fuel" as a warning. Few people could get past the first sip and the burn lasted quite a while. I used a pound of Jalapeño and Habañero peppers, and a couple of cups of sugar. It took a while to ferment, and I always do a second fermentation (adding a second round of Champagne yeast) to kick the alcohol content up a little bit beyond the normal limit of the first fermentation. The taste was unique, and watching friends try to drink it was quite entertaining. Each person wanted his buddy to try a taste. I say "his" because the women had better sense than to try it.
He got the wine started then left for 10 days in California at a shooting competition.....the wine had to be stirred every day.....he was 1200+ miles away from the concoction.....guess who had to stir it. I had to hold a towel over my mouth and nose while I did it, thankfully I wear glasses so I could still see after lifting the lid.
Have you given the wine a good taste (or 2) CC? I made wine once with grapes I was given. I had some really good wine for a while... Until it turned to vinegar! I can't even imagine a hot pepper wine though my son would probably love it. I'll have to tell him about it and see if he wants to try making some.
