While Daisybeans and Capt Kirk have been buried under tons of snow (again and again and again) the weird weather here has been unseasonably warm. We are at least six weeks early (warmest January on record).
    Here's what it looks like...

mushrooms in the grass...signs of spring ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden )

The mushrooms were on a grass strip next to the street. Car was moving too fast to get a really clear picture. :)

All the forsythia bushes in the neighborhood are breaking bloom. This is from my bush in the back yard.

This is an exceptionally early blooming rhodie. I haven't seen any others breaking bloom, but still. The bush was totally covered in blooms and buzzing insects looking for an early feast of nectar and pollen.

Hang in there everyone, spring isn't that far off...

Here they say that once the forsythia blooms, you have 3 more snows! And ours aren't even thinking about blooming!

I was just talking about your climate today with my colleagues. We were looking at weather statistics from different parts of the country. It's a nice treat to see your signs of Spring, esp the forsythia. And the green grass.... It was very encouraging.

I have been looking at the giant mounds of snow --- a 5 foot tall mound (seriously, almost as tall as I am) on top of my iris bed, 3 feet on top of my narcissus, and my forsythia are walled in by piles too. I wonder what is going on under there!

Your post renews my hope that Spring is around the corner. Thank you Jewell!

MaryAnn your weather would make you think the next ice age was on its way. Last winter we had a lot of snow (missed over a week of school that had to be made up in the spring). Several buildings had roofs collapse from the weight of snow.

It was nothing compared to what you have been getting. We seldom get snow that hangs on for more than a couple of weeks and the rains come in and never more than a few feet snow.

It's so good to see your green grass and lovely blooms Jewell. Like others though my forsythia hasn't even begun to think about flowering and more snow has been forecst for us here in Scotland.

We always seem to be out of step with the rest of the world here in the Pacific Northwest.

This is VERY unusual for here too. My brother is a crane operator and he has been clearing snow from the flat roofs of big buildings (warehouses, Home Depots, etc) because many of them are not rated to hold this much snow. There have been some collapses.

We've now missed a week of school. I'm kind of wondering how they'll make it up. It gets really hot here by late June and most schools do't have SC. Plus, you know how the kids sort of "check out" in June.... I'm wondering if they might consider making the Spring break in March a little shorter.

    But I digress....

The topic at hand -- Spring is on her way!

MaryAnn, maybe the state will call it a natural disaster..we got out of 3 days of make-up because of that. But you are right, when we go that late, almost the end of June it is hard to keep the kiddos and myself) focused.

Sorry Eileen, I'm not trading. I like the rain. My skiing days are in the past....otherwise....

Wow, Eileen... an igloo... that is pretty tempting isn't it, Jewell?

Jewell, this was declared a state of emergency... hmmm. Maybe they'll let some days slide. Though the kids at my school need all the school days they can get... I hope we're back tomorrow. It's been 10 days since I saw them and I miss them (a little).

DB it will be like starting over in the fall with that much time off, if your kiddos are anything like mine. It's never dull and often fun. :D
