Question: If I cut the bloosoms on the lavender will they continue to bloom through the summer? or are they a once bloom periennial? I have a dry/harsh area in front of our house between the street and the sidewalk. I've tossed thinned plants out there in the spring over the years. Some have made it and others haven't. The ones that I like best are the lavenders. One or two plants bought every year or so. What tough little plants. I lost a few lavender plants this spring to plant rustlers and a couple to the cold winter. Silly people didn't know that if they had asked I would have given them so many plants they would have called "uncle". Here is the pretty simple differences in the blooms. lavender ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) lavender ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) heather ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) heather ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) heather ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) heather ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden )
Very nice Lavender Jewell! Plant rustlers? Don't tell me you have people stealing things from your yard!
The plants that were moved to new homes were on the medium stripe in front of my yard. The first time that it has happened. :-? Seems the neighbors on both sides have lost little things from their yards though (a bird feeder and solar lights). It had never happened in all the years we have lived here until this year. Seems so wrong. I did get a kick out the young guy that had a bouquet in his hand and walked up the street taking a flower stem here and there. We have such a diverse neighborhood with lots of people out and about walking you never know. When people are so driven to take plants or flowers their lives must really be sad. (neighbor watched a car wait until she left for work-she drove around the block to witness a woman to get out and cut some iris blooms lining her front walk) I can't imagine not having the stability to grow a few things. Am going to try and get rid of the last of my extra plant starts today. Hope they are all gone by this PM. Time to take them out to the front.
Gosh Jewell--I can almost smell it. I like lavender so much, but don't have many plants myself. ...sniff-sniff....YUP, I kin smell'em!
I'm out to pick a bouquet just for you Sjoerd, and everyone else too. I'll hold them here and sniff till you come and get them
