Yesterday, a friend and I were taking our boat out of the lake for the season, and for some repairs. Part of that job includes removing the cover from the shore station. I have done that job low these many years, spring and fall. Well this year I was standing on the front edge of the boat to reach some fasteners that were at the front end of the cover. The boat was afloat, and as I held onto a cross brace over my head, the boat started to move away from me. My options were few, and rather than fall into the lake, I pushed hard toward the boat. I lost my footing under my right leg and it slipped into the boat, and down I went. The result is I tore loose my Quadriceps muscle, and some bone, from my right knee cap. I only found that out later in the hospital. So there I was, lying in the boat unable to move, at the bottom of a steep high embankment from the house. We drove the boat to the launch sight and met the ambulance there. Quite an adventure. Now I look forward to surgery to repair the damage. Now that's a fun way to spend an afternoon, with far reaching consequences. Tom
ouch! I don't count that as fun at all. I knew something wasn't going to be right soon as I read your title. Sorry for your mishap. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Keep us posted.
Oh my Dear, You are in for a life of misery now Both of my knees were trashed in a military accident and I have not been the same since My heart goes out to you
Oh no! :-? I can feel the pain for you. I hope you will be fairly comfortable until your surgery. You may be wishing you had turned loose and gone in the lake! Keep us posted on your surgery and recovery.I will be sending postive thoughts your way.
Oh, no, Tom. Is Mimi recovered enough from her surgery to nurse you? I will be thinking of you both, hoping everything goes smoothly.
I was almost afraid to read this post after reading the title. Oh dear Tom, I do hope you heal quickly!
What a thing to happen Tom!! Maybe a ducking in the lake would have been the lesser of two evils. Easy to say though isn't it - in hindsight? I hope you get the surgery done on your knee soon and that you're not in too much pain. I have two replacement knees so I can fully sympathise with you over your injury. Please take extra special care of yourself. Keep us updated on how you are won't you as we'll just worry otherwise.
Ouch! I hope you'll get your surgery and be nearly as good as new before too long, Tom. Good vibes are on the air towards you.
Oh, I know about knee injuries. Fortunately I didn't need to have surgery. I will maybe down the line. I hope it goes well for you and you recover full use of your knee. dooley
Ouch Tom! Sorry to hear about your fall and impending surgery. Did the docs mention how much of an impact it will have on your day-to-day life?
Thanks, everyone for your caring comments. I think if all goes well, I may be back on both feet in a few months. Based on current conditions, this is taking a big chunk out of my life, I can't drive, just getting around the house is a task, everything takes much longer, Just working at the computer is a task, my right leg sticking out to straight, no bend at the knee. Getting pictures this fall will be something, maneuvering the camera while on crutches and all. But life goes on, and I'll just do what needs to be done. I can sure understand Mimi's dilemmas while she recovered from her fall. Tom
