This monument is dedicated to all the brave and foolhardy who crossed the North Sea during WWII. My husband's uncle was one of those who crossed several times, saving refugees and bringing help back. He was torpedoed and died at sea in 1942.

What a beautiful statue! It's so nice that those who risked their lives for others aren't forgotten.

What a magnificent monument. So many people in so many different ways gave their all at that time, it's good to see them being remembered.

Love the monument. There have been and still are some brave people in the world. I try to be courageous whenever possible.

My grandmother told me that a fishing boat disappeared from their island. The owner waited a day and then reported it missing. He thought the refugees would be far gone by then. The boat was returned after the war.

wow, that is an awesome statue, thank you droopy for the pic an the history lesson there also...Kolbjørns uncle has alot of stories like that one also, an about the mountain right out front,, they had hidden there radios in the rocks an dens in the mountain an was always able to get word out to the troops before the germans could make it to where ever they were going up here,, an for the life of the germans they couldn't figure out how the norwegians were doing it,, coz when they would invade there was never a radio to be found.
