Well, most of us know about the GBBC (Great Backyard Bird Count), but you may not know about the Firefly Watch. They are studying the geographic distribution of fireflies and their activity during the summer season. They are also looking for a firefly that only comes out in the very early morning, but at night time instead. It's a pretty nice site. I just submitted my first form tonight.

I haven't seen a firefly in ages! When I was a kid... they were EVERYwhere. I remember my oldest brother giving me grief about catching them in a jar (even though I'd free them after a bit). He'd say "How would you like it if a big insect came by and snatched you up and put you in a jar??!" After hearing that a few (hundred) times... I did stop and just enjoyed watching them "in the wild".
