There is a website that has printable coupons, and while looking for usable coupons, I found one for "dishwasher cleaner." I thought dishwashers, which clean dishes, were clean, but perhaps there are deposits and grungies that build up. Strange, but possibly understandable to have something to clean your dishwasher.
What really made me scratch my head in wonderment was the coupon wasn't applicable to "travel size." Do folks travel around, cleaning dishwashers? Or are some hotels/motels now supplying dishwashers so you can use the travel size cleaner?
    Sometimes life is so bumfuzzling . . . .

Dishwashers, like upright washing machines, get cruddy. Mold, mineral deposits, generalized dirt builds up in cracks and crevices. So yeah, the cleaning machines occasionally need cleaning themselves. ;)

Re the "travel size" issue. I'm guessing it's just a generic label and as part of the coding of the site, it just pops up on anything that ISN'T coded as a travel sized item.

You don't stay in very many hotels do you?
Many hotels/motels have rooms with kitchenettes available, we stay in them quite frequently. And they do have dishwashers in them. So I am guessing that the travel size is a small container, similar to the travel size shampoo, toothpaste, etc. available at grocery stores and almost all coupons for those brands stipulate that they are not usable on travel size. The hotels supply dish washing detergent and dishes for cooking and eating so their washers get quite a lot of use. If someone wants to make sure the dishes they are using on a multiple day stay are not being washed in a crud filled washer then the travel size dish washer cleaner comes in handy.

First time I ever wiped the inside bottom of the dishwasher door and got a clothful of black gunk I was totally shocked as I never figured it for collecting or growing that much black moldy guck. I always now regularly clean there and sometimes throw in vinegar and do an empty load after I've cleaned inside it.

Toni, you are right--we don't stay in many hotels. We vacation perhaps twice a year, and the hotels we stay at offer a mint on the pillow in the evening, not a dishwasher!
Islandlife, I use vinegar regularly after wiping the inside down with baking soda on a damp sponge. No black moldy gunk so far, but I will be on the lookout for it.

@marlingardener - the first time I ever swiped the bottom inside of my dishwasher lid and saw all that revolting black slimey gunk I nearly lost it cause all I could think was that I'd been washing the dishes in this for years! Anyway - now I regularly wash that out so as to avoid the 'black gunk gooey' stuff. ;)

I don't have a dishwater (other than Ian) but I know our shops sell liquid in little dissolvable packs that you just pop in the machine. Then you turn it on and they clear all the nasties up and leave the appliance sparkling clean. They seem to have cleaning agents like this for almost every kitchen machine that you and think of. They no doubt save a lot of time and energy and if I ever get a dishwasher I'd certainly give them a try.
